Scientific notation is when a person moves the decimal place to the left or to the right as many times as it takes to get a number between 0 and 10. Then in order to write the right notation for it you need to first write the number between 0 and 10, then a multiplication sign, then a 10^n depending on the amount of times you move left or right.
Engineering notation is when a person moves the decimal point to the left or right in groups of three until you get to a number between 0 to 999. The way you write the number is the same the only difference is that for the sign after the number you add one of the signs from the chart above in order to show the correct notation.
